Former Council Boss Charts Path For Peace
Ex-Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ogba/Egbe-ma/Ndoni Local Government Area, Barrister Osi Olisa, has proffered solutions to end security threat facing Nigeria.
Osi, the brain behind the formation of ONELGA Security outfit (OSPAC) in an exclusive interview at the weekend, said he felt sad seeing the OSPAC God helped him to create in ONELGA had become a shadow of itself.
The former boss explained that no father would feel happy when his child was not doing well in school. “I feel sad seeing OSPAC God helped us to create become a shadow of itself. The boys are not happy and have been complaining for a change,” he stated.
Barr Osi complained that for a country to have effective change, right processes and procedures needed to be in place.
The first procedure, he described as long time measures, should be to engage the youths.
He said an idle mind remained the devil’s workshop. “Evolving a youth policy that will deliberately and consciously take away the youths from the streets remained one of the fundamental measures.
Barr Osi also named the short time measure as involving the indigenous people.
According to him, indigenous people as experimented in ONELGA with the formation of OSPAC worked tremendously, it is just that it could not be sustained. He averred that making the society safe was not as difficult as people thought.
He condemned the approach of conventional security, saying it should be reformed and re-enegised. The circular system we have, should be reformed and over hauled.
Barr Osi said Nigerian youths had potential energy if properly harnessed. “The energy which could have been used in construction work, industries to shelter the society have been lying untapped but diverted to criminal activities, leading us to where we are.
In a related development, the Ochimba II of Ulakwo in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH Eze Ogu Godwin, says Ulakwo/ Umuselen Clan remains the most peaceful clan in Etche.
Eze Ogu also called on Etche youths to resist crime and engage in meaningful activities capable of promoting peace and growth of Etche.
The Ochimba II of Ulakwo, who made the remark while receiving an award of icon of peace at the weekend by the Seven Day Adventist Church Ulakwo, noted, the award did not come as a surprise, based on the peace his people have been enjoying.
He said no community could develop in an atmosphere of violence and urged other communities to emulate Ulakwo Umuselen.
