Council Sacks 200 Workers
The Asari-Toru Local Government Council of Rivers State has terminated the appointment of more than 200 workers in the council.
The council chairman, Mr Ojukaye Flag Amachree, said in a statement in Asari-Toru yesterday that the affected workers were mainly from the Health Department of the council.
Amachree said that investigation showed that the affected workers lacked the requisite requirements to be staff of the council.
He said that the affected workers were not nominated by the council to the Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology and as such were not employees of the council.
Meanwhile, Comrade Saliye Jackreece, the branch Chairman of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees in the counci, said that the sacking of the workers posed a great threat to healthcare delivery in the area.
Jackreece pleaded on the council to have a rethink and recall the affected workers.
