‘Include IIJ In Rivers Bursary, Scholarship Scheme’
The students of the Intenational Institute of Journalism (IIJ) Rivers State Study centre in Port Harcourt have appealed to the State government to include them in the bursary and scholarship schemes in the state.
The President of the Students Union Government (SUG) of IIJ, Mr. Green Ene Green made the appeal when the Editor Daily and Chairman of the Tide Editorial Board, Mr. Soye Wilson Jamabo granted them audience at the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC) Board room, last week.
Mr. Green explained that the bursary would go along way to assist them meet their educational challenges due to harsh economic situation in the country. He also said that foreign scholarship like their counterparts in other tertiary institution in the state would help speedy manpower development particularly in Information Technology in the state.
The SUG President noted that since the establishment of the institution in the state the institute, has played a major, roll in addressing the educational desires of the students in the state who were unable to gain admission into the conventional institutions.
Describing, education as the bedrock of development in any society he said that including the IIJ students in the scholarship and Bursary Schemes of the State government would help the students especially the indigent ones meet their education pusuit.
He stated that the aim of establishing the school in the state was to bridge the gap of information professionals existing between the state and other states in the country, adding that information is a twin sister to development. Responding, Mr. Soye Wilson Jamabo who was represented by the Editor Opinion, Editorial and Special Projects, Mr. Nelson Chukwudi urged the IIJ students to channel their request to the appropriate government organs responsible for the scholarship and bursary payment in the state.
