Group Seeks More Funding For Education, Home-Based Students
The Niger Delta Students’ Union Government (NIDSUG) has called for more funding for education by stakeholders and International Oil Companies (IOCs) for students in tertiary institutions in the region.
The group also called for a holistic review of existing plans and funding for education by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), other oil companies and State governments in the region.
They made their views known through the NIDSUG President, Scott Ogunseri, while briefing journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
“The NDDC’S oversea scholarship should be holistically reviewed to capture undergraduates, they should also invest more in our local schools and scale up funding of local Scholarships.
“International Oil Companies should not only prioritise the interest and welfare of Niger Delta students in diaspora and overseas scholarships.
“The overall welfare of home-based students should also begin to attract attention from relevant stakeholders in the interest of the region”, Ogunseri said.
The group also appealed to state governors in Niger Delta to support programmes and policies that enhanced educational growth of home-based students.
“As students, we should feel the impact of International Oil Companies operating in Niger Delta in line with our various people-oriented projects and programmes”, he added.
