NSCDC Boss Cautions Personnel Against Accidental Discharge
Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Ahmed Audi, has cautioned officers against indiscriminate use of firearms and civil engagement.
Audi warned, in a statement by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Shola Odumosu, yesterday in Abuja, that accidental discharge was unacceptable under his watch.
The CG issued the warning when he read the riot act to his officers and men on operational tactics and use of firearms in special operations or civil engagements.
He said the caution was to enable officers and men of the Corps brace up, uphold and preserve the integrity of the service.
He said his administration would not tolerate acts of indiscriminate use of firearms, adding that he abhorred indiscipline among officers and men of the Corps.
Audi directecd a mop up of arms in all units and departments across all formations, and that the arms should be safely returned to the central armory of the Corps.
He further warned that no personnel must either be given arms or drafted for any assignment without tendering his or her arms training certificate as prove of competence.
According to him, “the days of accidental discharge are over and this administration will not tolerate it under any guise.
“There is need to observe the rules of engagement in all our operations and by consciously realigning our thoughts, actions and mandates with the current realities; we will be able to completely rule out accidental discharge.
“We will also make sure that proper screening and evaluation of all arms-bearing personnel are conducted to determine their mental health status before entrusting arms and ammunitions to them.”
Audi warned that breach of his directives would attract necessary sanctions and appropriate punishment to any erring personnel.
He further threatened to sanction personnel who compromised standards by involving in arms racketeering, accidental discharge or misuse of firearms.
He reiterated his commitment to train the Arms Squad unit of the corps to attain its full potential to strategically reposition the unit for the tasks ahead.
“Plans are ongoing to set up a special committee to organise and conduct comprehensive forensic, psychological and behavioral test for all arms bearing personnel to determine those who are fit to carry firearms,”

Haniel Jack Foundation Awards Five Rivers Indigenes Scholarship
The Ibanibo Haniel Jack Foundation has awarded scholarships to five Rivers State indigenes in different tertiary institutions.
The scholarship programme was announced on Easter Sunday by Rev. Dr. Samuel Wachukwu, who is also the presiding pastor of Redeemer Baptist Church, at No. 44/46 Lumumba Street, Mile Two Diobu, in Port Harcourt.
Speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Barrister Karibi George, advised the recipients to justify the scholarship by ensuring that they put in their best and finish at the expected time.
George reminded them that opportunity comes but once and they should take advantage of the opportunity that comes their way judiciously.
“Those of you who are beneficiaries of this scholarship should also remember to help others and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“I advise you to justify the opportunity given to you and make the man who gave you the scholarship, yourself, and your family proud,” Barrister George said.

He explained that the scholarship spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various high institutions in Nigeria. He thanks Sir Jack for the gesture.
The scholarship is to promote education in our society, most especially for Rivers indigenes, and equally assist those who cannot immediately afford tuition fees.

The scholarship was borne out of God’s blessings, and this is a way to give back to the society. Besides, two of the beneficiaries are direct employees of the chairman of the foundation, sir.
Ibanibo Haniel Jack, who is also the chief executive officer (CEO) of White House Hotel, in Port Harcourt.
Chief Prezi Diffa, while presenting the awards, commended Sir Ibanibo Haniel Jack, who has deemed it necessary to give back to society.
Chief Diffa equally advised the beneficiaries to take their academics seriously and count themselves lucky.
“The man who has given you this scholarship wants to better your lives, so please put in every effort to ensure you finish the school with flying colors,” Chief Diffa said.
The beneficiaries are Isoboye Haniel Douglas, Naomi Douglas, Charles Batubo, Ajé Sokari, and
Dakoru Owen Amachree.
