Court Grants Fani-Kayode N50m Bail
A Federal High Court
in Abuja yesterday granted bail to former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, with a bail-bond of N50 million.
Fani-Kayode is accused, by the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), of diverting N26 million.
The money was allegedly collected from the immediate past National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, for media campaigns ahead of the 2015 general elections.
The former minister pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge brought against him.
As part of his bail, he is also expected to produce a surety who must be a senior Nigerian with landed property in Abuja valued at a sum equal to that mentioned as bail bond, N50 million
Fani-Kayode’s bail followed an application by his counsel, Ifedayo Adedipe, that his client be allowed bail, after pleading not guilty to the charge.
The trial judge, John Tsoho, however, said the defendant should be remanded in the Kuje Maximum Prison, pending the fulfilment of his bail condition.
Fani-Kayode had previously been detained at the office of the anti-graft agency, EFCC, since his arrest.
