Consumers Berate PHCN Over Poor Power Supply
Electricity Consumers
in Rivers State have berated the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) over poor power supply in the state.
Port Harcourt residents who spoke with our reporter at the weekend, said it was disheartening to still experience dark nights in the state capital even as the Governor Amaechi led government has shown much commitment to guarantee steady power supply.
A trader in the state, Mr Okere Ugo, exphasised that 24-hour power supply could boost the economy, saying it would boost many business opportunities.
He regretted that residents spend so much in fuel and diesel to power their personal power generating sets to the detriment of their families.
Ugo pointed out that the money used to purchase the products (Premium motor spirit and diesel) if converted to some other uses could fend for a whole community.
He said that efforts should be geared towards 24-hour power provision to save the people from unnecessary hardship.
Another respondent, Miss Ibifuro Jack, said the federal government and other concerned agencies are gambling with the matter.
Jack who introduced herself as a student accused them of conniving with generator dealers to continue to with hold power in a bid to promote their trade.
According to her, the threat by the President Dr Goodluck Jonathan to stop the importation of power generating sets is a lengthy process for setting a simple matter, saying that 24-hour power supply will settle the case in a giffy.
Meanwhile, other contributors have lauded Governor Amaechi over his sincere moves to ensure that the state was provided with 24-hour power supply.
