Expert Wants Safety Education In School Curriculum
A Traditional Ruler and Safety Consultant, HRM Igwe Charles Nwoye, has stressed the need for the inclusion of safety education in the Nigerian School Curriculum from Kindergarten to tertiary levels of education.
Igwe Nwoye, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals, gave the urge it his office in Port Harcourt, last Thursday during an exclusive interview with The Tide Newspaper.
The Consultant pointed out that Safety awareness campaigns should start from the houses which is the small unit before it extends to other levels. He said safety practices seems to have more bearing in the oil and gas sector because of its prime objective to the Nigerian economy, and decried lack of compliance in other sectors of the economy.
According to the Royal father, such lack of compliance or sheer ignorance has over the years resulted in wanton lost of lives in avoidable disasters.
The founder and Chairman Board of Directors of Opeans Safety Consultants, also called on Safety Professionals integrity and not to compromise standard in course of carrying out their professional duties.
The Royal father further emphasied on the need for proper orientation by stakeholders on the need for strict compliance to safety standards. He said safety practice was yet to get a formidable platform for regulatory practice, and stated that safety practitioners in Nigeria where still in the process of seeking a charter to give them an enabling platform to practice like other professional bodies.
