Speaker Explains Sponsorship Of Soccer Tourney
The Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr. Eugene Odo, says his sponsorship of the U-16 soccer tournament is to discover talents who can represent the country in future.
Odo made the assertion at the kick-off of the Speaker’s U-16 soccer tournament at the Rangers Training pitch, Enugu.
He expressed the hope that the objective of the tournament would be achieved and young footballers who desired to make a career of the game would be discovered.
“We hope that at the end of the day the tournament will be successful, and we should be able to establish the purpose of this soccer championship.
And that is to make a talent shopping of our younger ones that have interest in making football their career”.
The speaker said that he hoped to sustain the tournament for three years and the best young players would be sponsored to represent the state in any future championship.
In the opening match, Samba FC of Uwani, Enugu played a 2-2 draw with Diego Sports Academy of Ngwo, also in Enugu.
Coach Donald Agu of Diego FC said: “I am impressed with the performance of the two teams. I thank the speaker and organisers for giving us the opportunity this year.
Also commending on the match, coach Kingsley Nnam of Samba said that the match was okay and the officiating was fair.
