‘No Room For Smugglers At Onne Port’
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Area Comptroller, Onne Port Command, Comptroller Dan Ugoh has said there is no room for smugglers despite their antics to circumvent the efforts of the officers as the command has vowed to realize its revenue target to the Federal Government.
Comptroller Ugoh, who made this declaration in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Enuekim Eyo said the command with its committed officers were battle-ready to achieve this goal.
According to him, they would maintain and sustain their enviable track record of meeting revenue target and zero tolerance for smugglers, adding that inspite of the fact that Onne Sea Port is grossly under utilized with its challenges, the command has not been lagging in meeting its revenue target this year.
He disclosed that the command generated the sum of over N51.9 billion within the months of January and September 2011, pointing out that it also discovered and seized one revolver pistol (Python 257) and four rounds of live ammunition.
A breakdown of the amount showed that in the first quarter of January to March, a total sum of over N17.1 billion was realised, in second quarter, the revenue stood at N17.8 billion, bringing the total revenue from January to June to the sum of N34.9 billion, while it increased up to the N51.9 billion in September.
It would be recalled that the amount surpassed its last year figure of N24.3 billion.
The Command in the statement assured that all things being equal, it would meet its target of N60 billion by the end of the year.
However, The Tide correspondent gathered that a total of 43 contrabands were recovered and seized within the period under review.
