RSTV GM Tasks Rotary On Rural Dev
The General Manager of the Rivers State Television Authority, Mr. Tonye Ekong has called on Rotary Club to consider the rural areas for some of its activities.
Mr. Ekong said this in a lecture entitled, “The Media As A Tool For Improving Rotary image” at the 2011 media day of the Rotary club of Port Harcourt North last Wednesday.
Mr. Ekong who also called for the domestication of the principles and ideals of the club encapsulated in its “four way test” regretted that nothing is known by the rotary club by people in the rural areas.
He blamed the situation on the over concentration of the club activities in the urban areas.
The RSTV General Manager further called for the localisation of the four way test to enable the common man on the street grasp the concept behind the objective of the club pointing out that this would go alongway in correcting the impression that the club is exclusively for the rich in the society.
Mr. Ekong used the occasion to call on the club to make effective use of the media to publicise its activities.
The President Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North District 9140, Rotarian Phil Olumba said that the media day was part of the activities of the club to establish relationship with the media.
Rotarian Olumba listed some of the activities of the club to include the construction of water borehole at the Elelenwo Boys Secondary School, provision of vests to police embarking on traffic control project as well as the organisation of career talks in secondary schools.
The club according to him also granted a revolving micro credit loan scheme to women in the area.
