Community Leader Seeks Youth-Friendly Initiatives
A youth leader, Mr Azeru Oludi, has called on Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers to evolve youth-friendly initiatives in his second tenure.
Oludi, a youth leader in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers, who made the call in Port Harcourt Sunday while speaking to newsmen urged Amaechi to carry out projects and programmes that would impact on youths and keep them off the streets.
“ It was in expectation and conviction that the governor would give attention to youths issues that we stood behind him during the elections,’’ he said.
Giving an assurance that youths in the state would cooperate with the governor, Oludi urged the governor to make them a part of his development agenda.
“We want him to keep us busy and give us a sense of belonging,’’ he added.
He commended Amaechi for the scholarship initiative which he said took some youths to Norway and Malaysia for education and skills acquisition.
“Some of the youths are back and already employed in their various fields. We remain grateful to the governor for approving such training for our people,’’ he said.
He canvassed that more youths should be trained by government in oil and gas related disciplines.
Oludi, however, urged youths in the state to shun violence, saying this was one way of expressing support for government.
