Old Students Plan N1bn Rehabilitation For Ekiti School
The Ekiti Baptist High School Old Students’ Association (Lagos/Ogun Region) has unveiled a N1 billion endowment fund for the rehabilitation of the school.
Speaking in Lagos at the unveiling of the project, titled, ‘Mega launch,’ President, EBHS Old Students’ Association, Mr Ifeloka Oyebade, explained that the endowment fund was essential to the school’s growth, saying the school was in a dilapidated state.
He maintained that the government had not been able to improve the quality of the school since it took over in 1976.
Oyebade said, “We found out that the government was no longer able to provide for the school adequately, after taking control of the secondary school in 1976. Numerous school facilities, including the dining hall, classrooms, and even the laboratories, are currently in poor condition.
The goal of the endowment fund is to provide the school with a long-term fix for its issues. To assist the school in returning to its former glory, we can invest with the help of this fund and earn interest. We can construct sturdy, high-quality buildings that will effectively support the school’s employees and students.”
Chairman of the planning committee, Dr Biodun Adedipe, called on well-meaning Nigerians, friends, and former students to assist in bringing the project to reality.
”We are all aware of the current situation at our alma mater, Ekiti Baptist High School
We feel that it is only right that we support the school in maintaining its integrity because, even in her previous state, it had a significant influence on our lives. Thus, we are taking advantage of this chance to invite friends, family, and other former students to work with us to ensure the success of this endowment funding.”
Another alumnus, Dr Christine Adebajo of 66–70 set, stated that the launch was being held throughout Nigeria, including Abuja, Ekiti, and even the diaspora.
She said, “We are all passionate about our school because, without the school, we would not be where we are today. The majority of us, the former students are still very active so you can see how passionate we are.
“We are working on several projects for the school, such as remodelling and furnishing the library, to demonstrate our commitment to this project. undertaking a few minor repairs, including the laboratory, for the school.”
