Amaechi, Others Hail Obio/Akpor Widows Empowerment Initiative

Amaechi has hailed the initiative of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council to empower over 500 widows in the area.
Speaking through the Chief of Staff Government House, Sir Tony Okocha during the empowerment of over 520 widows to commemorate the 5th empowerment programme of the council at Rumuola recently Amaechi said Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the area has displayed uncommon zeal to touch lives of the people.
Amaechi said the gesture of the Obio/Akpor Council is a turning point in lifting Nigeria to a better status.He said, “ this gathering was designed specifically for widows empowerment and I wish to thank all those who admire our courage in times of this nature, to give us support. Please be assured of your safety. We assure that, you can go home and keep your eyes closed when asleep.”
The governor urged them to make sure they obtain their voters cards when once the exercise commences challenging them that, “With your voters card, you will vote wisely in 2015.”
Also on his part, federal lawmaker representing Andoni,Opobo/Nkoro constituency, Hon. Dakuku Peterside commended the effort of the Obio/Akpor Council, while describing the CTC chairman as a pragmatic leader.” It is our hope and utmost desire that you experience a new lease of life. We can only get there if we have fear of God to get his divine blessings. We shall succeed and this is the gospel of APC.
We will vote out PDP and it will give way for the APC,”Peterside told the widows.
In his remarks, CTC Chairman of Obio/Akpor, Dr Lawrence Chuku said the scheme is taking place at a time when the technological advancement of human capital development was in the increase, as a way of providing food for the common people.In the words of Dr. Chuku, “ I was sworn into office on 1st June 2015 and since then with the current empowerment of 520 widows, which is now in the 5th phase. I’am proud to say that the empowerment of 520 widows at a time by a council with other engagements has made it unique.”He maintained that the council evolved such programme to reduce the plight of widows, adding that other beneficiaries have been trained in other skills covering fashion / designing and catering as means of life sustenance.Dr. Chuku said the scheme is to demonstrate that the All Progressives Congress(APC) is a grassroot party that is geared at lifting the poor out of their situation. “ We are going to make the APC a mass party. We have the greater population and the merger of political parties can never threaten our existent.”He assured that the party will stand and resist any electoral irregularity in next years elections stressing that, “ if our opponents are like politicians who place the people first, let them showcase their dividends as we are doing to connect with the grassroots.”

VIO HOLDS COLLABORATIVE MEETING WITH AUPCTRE IN RIVERS STATE
The Chief of the Rivers State Road Traffic and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), Engr. Akobo Monibo, alongside other executive officers of the agency, received the leadership of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Employees (AUPCTRE), Rivers State Council, during a courtesy and interactive meeting held at the office of the Chief VIO.
The delegation was led by the State Chairman of AUPCTRE, Comrade Tamunoiminabo Toby, accompanied by other executive members of the union.
Speaking during the meeting, Engr. Akobo Monibo expressed appreciation to the union leadership for identifying with the VIO at this crucial time and commended the union for its commitment towards workers’ welfare and institutional development.
According to him, the responsibilities of the VIO remain enormous and vital to the development of a safer transportation system within the state.
In his response, the State Chairman of AUPCTRE, Comrade Tamunoiminabo Toby, appreciated the warm reception and hospitality extended to the union delegation by the leadership of the VIO.
He explained that the purpose of the courtesy visit was to facilitate the establishment of an AUPCTRE Unit or Chapter within the VIO, noting that the union already has members within the Ministry of Transport and other related agencies.
The chairman further emphasized the benefits of union membership, especially in promoting workers’ welfare, unity, cooperation, and professional representation within government establishments.
Also speaking during the meeting, the Deputy Chief VIO, Comrade Livings Denoi, appreciated the union for the visit and welcomed the move towards establishing a VIO Chapter of AUPCTRE, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening collaboration and staff welfare within the agency.
Other personalities present during the meeting included Sup. Stella Jacks and the State Secretary of AUPCTRE, Comrade Okpeyeme Adebajo, alongside other officials from both organizations.
The meeting ended on a cordial note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to partnership, institutional growth, and the promotion of efficient service delivery in Rivers State.
