Establish Unity Varsity In Oyigbo, Monarch Urges Fubara
A royal father in Rivers State and Prime Minister of Okoloma-Afam Council of Traditional Rulers, Chief Sampson Hart Akaya, has called on the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to establish a unity university in the boundary between Okoloma – Afam Community, in Oyigbo Local Government Area, and her neighbour, Bai Ogoi, in Tai Local Government Area.
Speaking with newsmen recently in his palace at Okoloma-Afam, headquarters of Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state, Akaya said if established, the university’s presence will enhance productivity, and job creation and businesses would be provided for the people of these communities and other inhabitants.
He stated that with such institution in place, the marginalisation of both the Ndokis and Ogonis would be rectified, noting that with the presence of such school, land dispute, internal strife, killings and other negative vices would be a thing of the past.
Chief Akaya, ‘Oyi- Natu- Mba’ of Ndoki land and member, Oyigbo Council of Traditional Rulers, lamented that these Kingdoms had been denied of government attention during successive administrations in terms of pro- people development policies and programmes, among other issues of importance.
He noted that when established, the envisaged university would end the lingering internal wranglings of who owns what landed property at the boundaries between the duo communities of Ndoki and Bai Ogoi.
The monarch said robust accountability and transparency system must be instituted in the university, such as in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), grants from the federal and state governments, and other donors to the institution.
Chief Akaya also urged the Rivers South East Senatorial District of Khana, Gokana, Tai, Eleme, Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro and Oyigbo LGAs to queue behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who recently, marked his administration’s one year of revolutionary and aggressive development of the State.
He also appealed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to help the people of Ndoki extraction to construct their internal roads, which has over the years been left in a bad state.
