OCJ’s Chieftaincy Conferment Excites Evo Monarch
The Eze Oha Evo III of Evo Kingdom, His Majesty, King Leslie N. Eke, has expressed satisfaction over the conferment of chieftaincy title on OCJ Okocha, as Eze Enwa Gbaganu Oha 1 of Obio.
Eke who spoke with newsmen shortly after the ceremony in Port Harcourt, said Okocha’s chieftaincy conferment will transfuse new blood into the Obio Chiefs’ Council and that of the entire Ikwerre Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs.
According to him, the honour was well deserved given the wealth of experience Eze Okocha has gathered over the years in the cause of his legal practice.
The Evo monarch stated that the former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), who is a “legal heavy weight”, is fit and proper to project the image of the Council in a better light to the world.
“Honour, they say, is given to whom honour is due. The chieftaincy conferment on OCJ Okocha is very ideal. He has served at various levels in the state and at the national level. So, our decision to add him to our fold was key”, he said.
Reacting to Governor Nyesom Wike’s comment of conferring chieftaincy titles to only deserving members of the pubic, he said such should be the benchmark.
He described as counter-production a situation where someone with questionable character will be crowned or conferred with a chieftaincy title on the ground of wealth acquisition.
The monarch further stated that the Governor was right in his submission and added that traditional rulers and chiefs ought to be free from crime and shabby characters.
He also appealed to Obio Chiefs to be united in pursuit of their goals, saying that a house divided against itself cannot stand.
The Tide learnt that OCJ Okocha has over the years remained without a chieftaincy title until last weekend when he accepted the much expected chieftaincy title from Obio Government Recognised Traditional Rulers led by King Leslie N. Eke, Eze Gbakagbaka.
