A Port Harcourt based non-governmental organisation, Patriotic Forum of Nigeria (PAFOND) has called on the new management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to invest in human capital development.
The forum made the call in a communique at the end of its general meeting in Port Harcourt.
It decried the high rate of unemployment in the region and urged the commission to prioritize the employment of Niger Delta youths, while also demanded the completion of all abandoned projects by the commission.
PAFOND commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment of Mr. Emmanuel Auduohwaveborua as the new acting managing director of the commission.
According to the communique, “PAFOND commends the appointment of the new acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Mr. Emmanuel Auduohwaveborua by President Mahammadu Buhari and urge Niger Deltans to give him full support for the development of the region”
“The forum also urges the acting managing director to pay more attention to empowerment of youths and ensure that all abandoned projects of the commission in the region are completed.”
The communique which was jointly signed by the forum’s National Chairman, Comrade Owo Udoh and National Secretary, Pastor Richard Monday, thanked the new NDDC management for paying salaries of workers owed for months.
It urged the commission to remember persons and groups who have consistently contributed to the development of the region.
The group also appealed to the acting managing director to give financial support to groups who have good plans and structures to create jobs opportunities and assist government in economic development of the region.
