VC Tasks Students On Proper Time Management
Vice-Chancellor, Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, Prof Nlerum Okogbule has charged students to practice proper time management, especially within their first year in the university, noting that this was the secret to academic excellence as well as success recorded in the university in time past.
He maintained that the university has a way of rewarding academic excellence through her policy of declaring as university scholars those who attain a cummula Grade Point Assessment (CGPA) of 5.00 at the end of every academic session.
“The expo that I will give you in this regard is that it is easier to make the 5.00 CGPA on the 100 level of any programme, so the best time to strive to achieve this feat is now.
“You should endeavour to practice proper time management which is a major factor for academic success. Desist from indecent dressing and acquaint yourself with the code of conduct of this university as properly spelt out in the students’ handbook’’, the VCsaid.
He encouraged them to read the student’s handbook, adding that it will guide their activities in the university as well assist them to complete their programme.
He noted that the university has zero tolerance for all forms of anti social activities such as secret cult, examination malpractices and other forms of criminal activities in the campus, adding that any one found culpable will be rusticated from the university.
“Do not allow yourself to be intimidated or harassed by any person, body or group of persons under any guise whatsoever, report any untoward activities or conduct in this regard to the appropriate authorities of the university and be rest assured that necessary actions will be taken timeously on such complaints.”
He stressed that the key to success in an institution such as Rivers State University is hard work and unwavering focus on academic assignments, noting that the school has over time made tremendous achievements in academic excellence and infrastructural development which has made reading and learning more easier for the students. He charge the students to take their studies seriously, imbibe the habit of attending lectures, always make use of the Departmental and Faculty library.
Some students expressed delight with the management of the university and promised to adhere to the rules and regulations of the university.

RIVCHPP Set To Take Health Insurance Scheme To Tertiary Institutions In Rivers State
Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), the state health insurance agency, is set to take the health insurance scheme to schools, especially tertiary institutions, in the state.
This disclosure was made by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Rolegherighan Agala, when she led a team from RIVCHPP on an advocacy visit to the office of the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education on Friday, 16th January 2026.
Dr. Agala, who solicited authorisation from the Ministry for RIVCHPP to write to the institutions under Ministry’s mandate so as to begin enrolment of students in the various schools , said that for the health insurance agency to expand universal health coverage of the state, then students need to be enrolled into the programme.
RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary announced that the agency has also started talks with the State branch of Nigeria Association of Proprietors of Private Secondary Schools (NAPPSS) to ensure that no one in the state is left out from having the opportunity of accessing quality healthcare services without passing through financial hardship.
Dr. Agala also commended the innovative policies that the Permanent Secretary have brought to bear towards improving the educational exploits in the state, saying that the changes align to the interest and mandate of Governor Siminialayi Fubara stance on education.
RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary appreciated the Permanent Secretary for giving the team audience, pledging her team’s dedication and commitment to clients’ satisfaction, calling on schools to embrace the S-SHIP package dedicated for the well-being of students in Rivers State.
In her remarks and response, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr.(Mrs. ) Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, who warmly welcomed the RIVCHPP team, promised to share with and disseminate all information about RIVCHPP to all public schools in the state so that the schools will be willing to give RIVCHPP opportunity to sensitise them on what RIVCHPP is all about and the benefits of signing up with RIVCHPP.
Dr. Uzoma-Nwogu advised RIVCHPP to be proactive and consistent in the mandate of providing affordable and quality health care to Rivers residents.
