Ex-The Tide Staff Bags Chieftaincy Title
A retired staff of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Dr Alpheus Paul-Worika, was recently honoured with a chieftaincy title in his home town, Ogu, in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The ceremony, which was well attended by Journalists in the State and other dignitaries, saw virtually all and sundry eulogise Dr Paul-Worika for his service in various capacities he has served humanity.
Among the dignitaries was a former General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publisher of The Tide Newspaper, Mr Celestine Ogolo, who expressed Dr Paul-Worika’s doggedness in service as a Journalist.
Mr Ogolo, who is currently the Director, Public Enlightenment, at the State Ministry of Information and Communications, described the recipient as being worthy of the title.
According to him, Paul-Worika is “a pace setter, peacemaker, philanthropist and community builder, who is always ready to give his best, no matter the odds.
“You can see the line up of chiefs showering him with praises and offering advise on his journey into the new position”, he said.
Also speaking, the National Vice President, Zone F of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Opaka Dokubo, said “the installation is an indication that Dr Alpheaus Paul-Worika is at peace with his people”.
He emphasised on the need for people to be “good while on earth”, noting that “the good legacy he has displayed towards his people have made it easy and possible for him to be installed as one of the respected chiefs in Ogu Town”.
On his part, Chairman of the State Council of NUJ, Stanley Job Stanley, described the recipient as “one of the best veterans, who is still practicing the journalism profession with diligence as a Publisher of the ‘Vortex’ newspaper”.
Dr Paul-Worika used the opportunity to call on all and sundry to give their best in wherever and whatever capacity they find themselves, saying that “the way to greatness is to be at peace with your conscience, humanity and God”.
The title makes him a Chief of Worika War Canoe House of Ogu.

Motor Spare Parts, Industrial Generators Dealers’ Union Swears Gets New Chairman in Port Harcourt
The Owhonda Dickson Motor Spare Parts and Industrial Generators Dealers’ Union operating in Ikoku Port Harcourt, Rivers state has sworn in Mr. Cyril Igbokwe, popularly known as Onyeoma Cy, as its new Chairman.
The brief swearing _in ceremony was held at the union office in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Igbokwe expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence his members had shown in him, despite his perceived educational background compared to others. , “I feel very happy to be the chairman of this great union in this great market. I’m proud of my executives for demonstrating commitment and cooperation.” Notably, the executives raised over ?1 million for the inauguration ceremony within an hour.
The new Chairman promised to tackle key challenges facing the union, including security and indiscipline. He vowed to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, who he praised for excellent performance, and aimed to possibly do better.
Mr. Igbokwe emphasized maintaining a robust relationship with the host community and conducting his affairs within the ambit of the law.
In his remarks,the Electoral Committee Chairman’, Igwe Amobichukwu Eze Okorie, assured that the elections were conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner. Despite facing challenges such as non-compliance with guidelines and unfounded propaganda campaigns, no formal protest letters had been received.
Also speaking, the Women’s Leader, Lolo Nkechinyere Okolie, expressed faith in the new Chairman, citing his integrity and experience. She highlighted her role in ensuring women’s voices are counted in the union and vouched for the credibility of the election, noting that Mr. Igbokwe was the popular choice among members.
