Enyimba Await CAF Decision On Ittihad Clash
Enyimba chairman, Felix Anyasi-Agwu, says the club are awaiting the decision of the Confederation of African Football over their appeal to have their rescheduled first leg CAF Confederation Cup match against Al Ittihad replayed at a different venue.
The first leg of the encounter was billed to hold on November 28 in Tunisia but the Nigerians were barred from entering the North African country due to strict COVID-19 restrictions.
The match was however postponed, while CAF consulted its Interclub Committee Commission, who concluded to have the match played between December 17 and 19 in Benghazi, Libya.
The Interclub Committee also rejected Ittihad’s appeal to have the match ruled in their favour as a walkover.
Tidesports source gathered that on December 8, Enyimba protested the decision to CAF and Anyasi-Agwu, in a chat with our correspondent on Tuesday, confirmed that they had written to CAF and were awaiting the decision of the continental body.
“I’m not really in the position to answer now, we have appealed to CAF and they have also acknowledged our letter saying we have the right to appeal and our match will not hold until the appeal is heard.”
CAF had given Ittihad till December 10 to communicate with it and Enyimba the ideal date, venue, and logistics for the rescheduled match, but Anyasi-Agwu said they were not thinking about the game until the appeal had been heard.
“No one is talking about any match at the moment. We have appealed and we’re waiting for the decision,” he added.
