Content Policy: Expert Tasks FG On Local Technology Dev
An expert in the energy sector, Engr. Samuel Kwelle, has urged the Federal Government to give priority attention to the development of local technology to secure 100 capacity building and enhance indigenous participation in the oil and gas industry and other critical sectors of the economy.
Kwelle, who is the Technical Secretary of the Port Harcourt branch of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, gave the charge during an exclusive interview with The Tide at the weekend.
The energy expert faulted the activities of multinationals and foreign expatriates in projects delivery and policy compliance in the country.
He lauded the bold advances recorded in the oil and gas industry in content development and advocated that similar measures should be extended to the other productive sectors of the economy.
He said: “the Nigeria content consultative forum has recommended that craft men and junior engineers should be assigned to expatriates in the delivery of every project to make inputs in valuation and enhance technology transfer and reduce capital flight.”
Kwelle, who is a senior member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers also, identified the need for the development of the non oil sector of the economy.
He called for a multi sectoral approach in the harnessing and development of other sectors, such as agriculture, tourism, renewable energy among others, to put the country on the right pedestal of economic development.
The expert who is also the Managing Director, Atmosphere Technology Limited, said that, “local entrepreneurs and technocrats should be given opportunities to make inputs in projects designs in the country, because they were more familiar and disposed with the development terrain”.
He commended the efforts of the Content Development Monitoring Board for its efforts in the regulation and implementation of the Nigeria content development policies.
