Rector Tasks Lecturers On Researches
The Rector of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Dr Samuel Kalagbor has called on polytechnic lecturers in the country to be involved in researches that would impact positively on the management for the benefit of humanity.
Kalagbor made the call while declaring open a three-day National Conference organised by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Captain Elechi Amadi chapter recently in the school with the theme, ‘Environmental Sustainability In Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects’.
He advised them not to use the conference as an academic gathering only but should endeavour to come out with policies that would assist the government and other stakeholders in the environmental sector on how best the country’s environmental system can be managed well as well as sustained.
According to him, his administration was committed toward promoting research in the institution, adding that he would continue to support efforts towards that direction.
The rector stated that the state was currently experiencing various degrees of environmental challenges and added that such a gathering should be able to proffer solutions and assistance to the challenges. Earlier in his welcome address, the ASUP Chairman, Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Dr Moses T. Bakpo while welcoming members to the conference said it was organised in line with Article 22 of the constitution and code of conduct of the union.
He averred that the environment was a free gift nature edowered with many potentials for the benefits of humanity and added that the environment has been threatened due to human activities.
Earlier in an interview with journalists, the Public Relations Officer ASUP, CEA Poly branch, Comrade Ikoro Nwokezi John urged relevant government agencies to enforce various laws guiding the regulation of the nation’s environment sector and sanction violators and promote a healthy environment.
Other members of ASUP across the country attended the conference.

The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector.
