LG Auditor-General Harps On Transparency In Service Delivery
As part of measures in
tackling the daunting economic challenges in the country, the Auditor-General for Local Governments in Rivers State, Mr Friday Bema has called for transparency in service delivery in every sector of the economy.
Bema who gave the charge during an interview with The Tide in his office in Port Harcourt recently, disclosed that transparency and accountability would boost productivity in all sectors and save the country from the pangs of economic recession.
He emphasised the need for people to pay their taxes to enable government provide the basic amenities for development. Bema reiterated the commitment of his office towards the efficient auditing of local government councils in the State, adding that government alone cannot shoulder the holistic process of development.
He called for more commitment to public private sector partnership and urged multinationals and other corporate organizations to carry out their corporate social responsibilities in their host communities.
Bema who described the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike as a symbol of transparency and accountability in governance, said the Governor had judiciously applied the lean resources to provide quality services in Rivers State.
Bema, a former chairman of the Port Harcourt and District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) said his recent induction as a full member of the Nigeria Institute of Management, would guide him to be more efficient and add values to his professional duties.
