‘RSG To Boost Potable Water Supply In LGAs’
The Rivers State Government says it has put in place modalities that would enhance potable water supply and sanitation in the 23 local government areas in the state.
The state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike stated this when a delegation of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources led by the Minister, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, paid him a courtesy call in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, the governor expressed the readiness of the state government to partner the Federal Government in meeting the water needs of its citizens in line with the MDGs projection.
He explained that the commissioning of the 50km network reticulation water project located at Alesa and Agbonchia booster stations in Eleme Local Government Area will not only boost water supply in the area, but further enhance potable water distribution to other parts of the state.
Wike, who commended the Minister for the courtesy visit, noted that the state government, in its resolve in tackling security issues has provided security agents with sophisticated gadgets and vehicles that will help them combat crime effectively.
Earlier, the Federal Minister of Water Resource, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, said they were in the state to exchange ideas on the issues of water supply and sanitation, pointing out that over 54 million Nigerians do not have access to potable water, which is why the ministry was engaging government at all levels, to ensure that the people have access to quality water supply.
The Water Resources Minister was accompanied by the Chairman, Committee on Water Resources, House of Representatives, Hon. Aliyu Admad Pategi, and the management of Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA).

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
