Association of Authors
of Rivers State (AARS) has described the death of Captain Elechi Amadi as a great loss to Rivers State and the entire Nigerian nation.
The association which stated this in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt noted that the late literary icon deserved both State and national honours.
The release which was jointly signed by the President of the association, Hon. Austin Morris Joe and Secretary, Nkemakolam N. Omeodu particularly urged the government, to immortalise the late Icon by naming some institutions in the country after him.
The association described Captain Amadi as an author and statesman who had contributed so much towards the development of the Nigerian state, saying the Nigerian literary world is bound to miss him greatly.
“This association would have preferred Captain Elechi Amadi to live for more years ahead but nature is stronger than man.
“Therefore, we shall henceforth rely on his legacy as one of the pathfinders of literature in our state and Nigeria in general”, it said.
The association further prayed the Almighty God to give his family, Rivers people, and the entire Nigerians the fortitude to bear the great loss.
