Stakeholders Resolve To Tackle Insecurity In Ogoni
Stakeholders in Gokana
Local Government Area of Rivers State have resolved to chart a common front in fishing out criminals in the area.
The stakeholders, including politicians, police, DSS and traditional rulers at a security meeting in Gokana also agreed to handover criminals in the area to security agencies.
The Secretary to the State Government and an indigene of Bodo Community, Kenneth Kobani, during the meeting described incessant killings and spate of insecurity in Gokana as unnecessary.
Also, the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Fred Kpakol, said from his finding as a former chairman of Gokana the issue of landed properties and cult-related activities were the major challenges in addressing insecurity in the area.
Speaking, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Gokana Local Government Area, Austin Sor told the gathering that upon assumption of office by November 2015, he took steps to curb insecurity in Gokana in line with the directive of Governor Nyesom Wike.
Our correspondent reports that the security meeting , also attended by a former President of MOSOP, Ledum Mitee, agreed to set up a committee to look at ways of settling the crisis rocking Barako and Nwibara communities in Gokana Local Government Area.
In a related development, a pro-PDP group, the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) has raised alarm over alleged threats to life of its members in parts of the state.
The Secretary General of GDI and Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Nwanosike, at the end of an enlarged meeting of GDI in Rumuodomaya, said the group had petitioned security agencies on the matter.
Also speaking, the GDI Coordinator in Ahoada West Local |Government Area, Green John, alleged that he had been receiving death threats.
