Surveyor-General Wants MDAs To Collaborate On Dev
The acting Surveyor-Gen
eral of Rivers State, Mr Noel Chikezie Elenwo, has advised the government of the need for MDAs saddled with the responsibility of planning, construction and development of cities and states to collaborate and work in synergy to proactively deal with issues that will mitigate against the good efforts of the government in bringing development to the people.
Elenwo, who made the remarks while speaking with newsmen at the end of an inspection tour of blocked natural drains and some roads in states of disrepair in parts of Port Harcourt metropolis and Obio/Akpor LGA, said that the inspection was geared towards identifying sources that cause traffic congestion and flooding and how to proffer solutions based on survey techniques. The acting surveyor-general also said that there was need to link artificial drains within the cities to natural drains, even as there is need to put into effective use inter-connecting roads to reduce traffic and haulage on the major roads within the city.
Elenwo emphasised that linking the natural drains with the man-made ones is a proactive step in response towards mitigating the devastating effect of flooding as predicted by NEMA this year.
The acting surveyor-general said that it was no longer business as usual where officials of MDAs will sit in the comfort of their offices while things go wrong in the rural areas, assuring that efforts were being made to find lasting solutions to the problem of flooding in the state through integrated infrastructure development policies.
