The Rivers State Governor,
Chief Nyesom Wike, has sued for support of Muslims to tackle economic and security challenges facing the country even as he called on Muslims to pray for the nation’s unity.
He also enjoined them to live peacefully among people of other beliefs since Allah abhors all forms of discrimination.
Speaking when he received the muslim community on a courtesy visit as part of the Eid el-Fitri celebration last Saturday in Government House, Port Harcourt, Wike assured the muslim community in Rivers State that his administration would not discriminate between muslims and christians.
Wike said, “I will give you all the opportunity you require to succeed. Your contribution is very important to the state’s development. So, in my administration, there will be no Christian and there will be no Muslim, all of us are one”.
Calling on them to remain law abiding citizens, Wike enlisted the support of the Muslim community in the fight against crime by ensuring that their wards eschew violence and other social vices.
On the request made by the Muslim community for the release of a section of the Port Harcourt Cemetery to bury their members, Wike assured them that he will prevail on the Port Harcourt City Council to review any subsisting law barring them from doing so.
He also promised to continue sponsoring Muslim Hajj, adding that, “no matter the lean resources, we must encourage our people to go for spiritual upliftment.”
In his remarks earlier, Vice President General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Rivers State Islamic Leader, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor, had commended the governor for the interest he has shown in the of muslims in the state.
