NPA To Check Influx Of Ports Intruders
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Wednesday said it would disallow intruders from carrying out illegal businesses at the ports.
The Apapa Port Manager, Mr Nasir Mohammed, told the newsmen in Lagos that the port was meant for legitimate business activities.
According to him, access into the ports must remain restricted to ensure the safety of workers at the ports.
“On the issue of access control, the port continues to remain a security facility and for that reason, access into the port must be regulated.
“Especially in view of current situations that have been happening across the country; we have never taken it for granted.
“We have continued to ensure that there must be maximum security provided in the port.
“So, for this reason, the Port Police and the NPA security personnel have been doing their best and we’ll continue to encourage them, especially in ensuring that people that have no legitimate business in the port do not get into the port.”
The port manager said further that the management would continue to ward off squatters from the port.
“Last year, we undertook operations to dislodge squatters and other people that have no business in the port, especially around the customs areas and is going to be a continuous exercise.
“We usually collaborate with the customs and other agencies inside the port, to ensure that we rid the port of people that have no legitimate business inside the port.’’
Report says that the port security operatives at the gate subjected pedestrians to multiple checks, requesting for valid photo identity cards, in addition to other security checks.
He said that when the Chapter was fully admitted by ICC, Nigeria would have a seat with all recognised chapter in the world.
According to him, it was clear that Nigeria needs a new paradigm in its approach to infrastructural development.
He said that it was obvious also that Nigeria had a chronic problem due to lack and effective use of building codes and standards in infrastructural development.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
