Stakeholders Call For Rivers State Int’l Donor Agency
Stakeholders in Rivers
State have urged the Rivers State Government to enact a law establishing the Rivers State International Donor Agency (RIVISIDA) as an Independent one stop shop to strengthen and regulate the administration of international donor aids in the State.
The position of the stakeholders was contained in a 6-point communiqué issued at the end of a 3-day capacity building workshop organised by the office of the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on International Donor Agencies in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme. (UNDP).
The communiqué which was signed on behalf of the participants, by Barr. Endwell Orlu-Akwu, CEO, Africa Centre for Peace and Civic Education, Princess Favour Peter of Nigeria Image Transformation and Demond Ogwu stated that; “only a statutory law can properly regulate and coordinate the activities of donor agencies for effective monitoring and evaluation of their programmes.
It also stated that “the agency should play a gate keeping role on International aids coming to the state to help beneficiary MDAs and other developments stakeholders can relate with and obtain foreign aid data, while the Rivers State Bureau of Statistics which has been established by law should activated to provide support services for coordinator of donor funds”.
The communiqué also recommended that CSOs should be encouraged to play significant role in the administration of donor funds in the state through effective monitoring of project, and added that the members of the rivers State House of Assembly should be encouraged to widen heir template to include key areas such as tourism and Sports development.
