Chairman Decries Absence Of Potable Drinking Water

Chairman of Omalem, in the Abua/Odual local government area of Rivers State, Chief Itoemugh Okurugbo has decried the absence of potable drinking water in more than forty five communities in Abua.
Okurugbo who spoke to our correspondent in an exclusive interview over the weekend at his home said the situation has exposed the indigenes to possible outbreak of water borne diseases.
He said with the prevailing circumstances in the communities, the out break of cholera, epidemic could not be ruled out.
While urging the necessary government agencies to take urgent steps to address the anomaly, the community leader said “a situation where only dug out wells constitute the only source of drinking water was not acceptable.
He further noted that even with the presence of few solar powered over head water tanks installed by MP-3 organisation, the water needs of the people were still not met.
“Although solar powered over head water tanks were constructed at few localities in the LGA by MP-3, it does not meet with the water needs of the citizenry” h e said adding that dug out wells were unhygienic.
In a related development, The Tide gathered that the Okana/Emesu/ Aminigboko/Owerewere road, constructed by NDDC needs urgent rehabilitation.
