A refuse collector,
Mr Kola Yusuf says the business of house-to- house refuse collection can check unemployment among the youths in Rivers State.
Speaking in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, Mr Yusuf who operates at Agip Estate, Port Harcourt said that refuse collection can keep the youths away from crime, as it not only provides a source of livelihood, but could make you keep them busy all the time.
He said that some refuse collectors make as much as N1000 to N2000 per day depending on the areas of operation.
“Sometimes people pay me as I collect dirty from their houses, some pay monthly,” he said.
Yusuf, however, said that refuse collection, the business also has its challenges.
According to him, requires constant medication to ensure physical and health fitness while they also suffer from constant harassment from various taskforce that extort money from them.
Yusuf who hails from Ogun State, however, said that he would not be a refuse collector for ever as he is planning to open a provision store very soon.
He condemned the attitude of youths who prefer begging to hard work, stressing that he would rather die as refuse collector than beg money to survive.
