‘Faulty Engineering Tools Responsible For Building Collapse’
The Rivers State Government
has blamed the incessant collapse of buildings and other structures across the country on faulty engineering tools.
Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr. Solomon Eyiba, disclosed this recently while declaring open a two-day workshop on “Effective Usage of Engineering Tools for Management and Control of Complex Structures” for directors of works of the 23 local government areas organised by the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission.
Eyiba said that the situation has led to loss of lives and economic activities, stating that the trend must be checked before more damage is done.
He said that the workshop is timely as it would help to improve the construction industry.
In his address, the Acting Chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Engr. Kingston I. Jaja, said that the workshop was intended to update the knowledge of directors of works in the local government system on how to effectively use engineering tools to manage and control complex structures for better production in the system.
“It is worth noting that the management of engineering structures in the country particularly in the local government system is being ignored and this leads to collapse of structure, hence huge loss of capital which affects the economy”, he said.
According to him, the workshop is the geared towards awakening the awareness for effective usage of engineering tools for better management and control of complex structures in the system.
