Ogu Community Wants School Contractor Back To Site
The people of Ogu in the
Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State have called on the State Government to direct the contractor handling the construction of the Government Secondary School, Ogu to return to site.
This was contained in a communiqué made available to newsmen at the end of a stakeholders meeting between the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs, the Niger Delta Anti-Corruption Network (NIDAN) and Stakeholder Democracy Network (SON) at Ogu recently.
According to the communiqué signed by Engr. Mark Derefuka and Chief S. M. K Taribo Amgbara and others the stakeholders said that part of the Government Secondary School was demolished in 2008 with the intention to build a model secondary school.
They noted that the project which was budgeted for and a contractor commissioned to carry out the work, has however been abandoned by the contractor.
According to the communiqué, after the demolition, the contractor abandoned the project even after he had been mobilised. “Noticing that the project had been abandoned by the contractor, the chiefs and people of Ogu sought audience with the Governor of Rivers State Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi concerning the demolition and the abandonment of the project.”
They noted that the commencement of work on the project had become necessary with a view to alleviating the suffering of school children in the community.
The communiqué said that the stakeholders meeting was convened to draw the attention of the Governor and other stakeholders in the educational sector to the deplorable condition of Government Secondary School Ogu.
