Kano To Establish 44 Islamic Schools
The Kano State Gov
ernment last Thursday, said it would establish School for Islamic Studies in each of the 44 local government areas of the state this year.
The Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Tajuddeen Gambo, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen in Kano.
He said the schools would be established to absorb students who attended Islamiyya schools.
“There are many students who attend Islamiyya schools but could not find relevant institutions to further their studies,’’ Gambo said.
He said establishing such schools would enable students who passed out from the Islamiyya schools to further their studies adding that the schools would provide Higher Islamic Studies (HIS) certificate, which is equivalent to grade II Teacher Certificate.
The commissioner also said that the state government had planned to establish seven female technical colleges to boost girl-child education in technical and vocational studies.
“The female technical colleges will take off this year, in addition to the 22 new technical colleges for boys to be established across the state,’’ he said.
On free education programme, Gambo said that parents had been directed to stop paying school fees for their children from this term.
“The school fees being paid each term range between N700 and N400, and the state government has directed parents to stop paying as from this term,’’ he said.
According to him, the state government will calculate the money and remit same to the schools to enable them carry out their activities.
