ASUU Lauds FG On Payment Of Salary Arrears …NGE Hails Resolution
The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan chapter, Dr Segun Ajiboye, has described the payment of lecturers’ five-month salary arrears by the Federal Government as encouraging.
Ajiboye told newsmen in Ibadan that the federal government had with this, gesture started implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with the union.
“It is encouraging that the salary arrears have been paid to members, and I believe this cuts across board.
“Right now, members are ready to go back to work. We however expect government to be sincere in fulfilling other aspects of the MoU,’’ he said.
Ajiboye expressed optimism that government would not go back on the agreement.
On a similar note, the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) has also expressed relief at the resolution of the Federal Government/Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) impasse.
In a communiqué issued by (NGE) after its fourth quarter standing committee meeting held in Calabar on 30 December 2013, it advised both parties to endeavour to be faithful to the agreements reached to avoid a recurrence.
The NGE regretted that strike by the university lecturers have negatively affected the growth of education sector in the country.
