Director Tasks Corps Members On Nation Building
The Director of Police Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabiru, last Thursday urged members of the National Youth Service Corps to distinguish themselves in their community development projects, to contribute meaningfully to nation building.
Kabiru, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, made the appeal in a telephone interview with our correspondent make a difference anywhere they find themselves,’’ he said.
The director said that such projects would facilitate development at the grassroots and advance Nigeria.
Kabiru added that such exceptional performances would make corps members to be role models.
He said that, at the moment, some corps members were committed , while others lacked dedication.
“The quality of our corps members is a reflection of what the schools invested in them,’’ he said.
The deputy commissioner of police noted that a corps member, Miss Cynthia King, who served with the Police Children’s School, Abuja, renovated 18 classrooms as her community development project.
He said that King carried out the project with donations from private individuals and groups.
“This selfless service earned her and two other corps members automatic employment by the Inspector-General of Police,’’ he said.
He urged other corps members to emulate King to prove that they were properly trained by their respective institutions.
“Any corps member who cannot defend the certificate he or she obtained should be probed,” he said.
