Group Seeks Participatory Governance
Community Initiative for enhanced peace and Development, a Niger Delta based non government organisation has blamed the near absence of good governance in the country on non participation by the masses.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Mrs Egochi Ezinwoke Ogondu who said this during a “one day training session for councilors on active and participation governance in Port Harcourt said that the masses had left the business of governance to only those in position of Authority.
Mrs Ogondu said that this situation had made the people to look upon their elected representatives for all forms of legislations.
She said that the seminar has intended to bring together councilors from Port Harcourt City Council Abua/Odual and Oyigbo local Government Areas with a view to educating them on the act of legislations that would bring changes to their respective Local Government Councils.
The Executive Director said that the training would enable the councilors to appreciate their roles as legislators and also work with their people to develop a workable byelaw in their Local Government Areas, she said that the group had worked with several organizations in the areas of conflict management as well vulnerable groups in the society.
Also speaking the president of Abuloma Community Women Forum Miss Leticia Hudi described the seminar as timely as it had helped the participants to know their roles in the governance of the society.
She said that the Abuloma Women Forum was ready to partner with the group to improve the fortunes of women in Abulama community.
Other participants also expressed satisfaction with the programme.
