NCS Suspends Introduction Of Pre-Arrival Assessment Report
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has suspended the introduction of the new Pre-Arrival Application System (PAAR).
The PAAR is a one-stop-shop for clearing of goods in the nation’s ports and borders.
A statement posted on the service’s website on January 2 stated that the suspension was sequel to the extension of contract to service providers on the Destination Inspection (DI) for cargoes in the country.
“In line with this development, therefore, the introduction of the new PAAR, which was developed by the Nigeria Customs Service, is now put on hold. “All work plans related to the launch of the system will, therefore, be reviewed in consultation with all relevant authorities and stakeholders,’’ the statement said.
It stated that the service was looking forward to assuming full control of DI across the country when the six months extension granted the service provider would have elapsed.
Our correspondent recalls that on December 31, the Federal government extended by six months the seven-year contract awarded to the three service providers for DI. The NCS was scheduled to have assumed the DI services on January 1, 2013, following the termination of the agreement with the service providers.
