VC Tasks Staff On Constant Learning
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, last Thursday charged staff of the institution to constantly reflect on their individual and institutional roles.
Ambali gave the charge in Ilorin at a workshop organised by the Centre for Research, Development and In-house Training (CREDIT) and had as theme: “Toward Excellence in Teaching and Research’’
He said that no development could be achieved without lecturers engaging in constant learning.
Ambali said the doctrine of the university was based on teaching, research and community service, adding that such mandate could only be achieved with constant learning.
“Every institution needs to learn from others and constantly re-invent itself through reflective practices; the workshop is a product of reflection,” he said.
The vice chancellor also enjoined technologists to participate in the training process.
The Director of CREDIT, Prof. Temidayo Oladiji, had earlier said that the university made provision for training and retraining of staff in line with global best practices.
She added that commitment to excellence had made the institution to be consistently rated as one of the topmost citadels of learning in the country and among the best in Africa.
Oladiji said the centre would continue to promote excellence in research while organising workshops aimed at sharpening the skills of staff within and outside the university.
