GPHCDA Donates To Flood Victims
In a bid to compliment the efforts of the State Government in ameliorating the sufferings of flood victims in Rivers State, the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority has issued relief materials to assist the victims.
Presenting the relief materials to members of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Ahoda East and Ogba Egbeme/Ndoni Constituencies, at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, the Administrator of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, stated that the authority commiserates with all those affected by the flood, adding that the relief materials are an indication that the authority shares the pains of the victims.
Mrs Cookey-Gam further stated that the little contributions from the authority and other well-spirited individuals in Rivers State would go a long way in ameliorating the sufferings of the victims, pledging that the Rivers State Government would continue to assist all those affected by the flood.
Materials donated were: food items, toiletries, soaps, provisions, sanitary wares and bottled water.
While thanking the Governor of Rivers State, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for setting-up a flood committee to reach out to all the areas affected in the State, to save lives, the administrator applauded the committee members for ensuring that people in all the affected areas are safe.
Receiving the items, Hon. Sam Eligwe, a member of the flood committee who is also the House Committee Chairman on Greater Port Harcourt and NDDC, lauded the efforts of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, as the first agency of the Rivers State Government to respond to the flood victims and promised that his committee would ensure that the relief materials get to the people.
Dr Eligwe also used the opportunity to call on individuals, companies and corporate organisations to follow the good examples set by Greater Port Harcourt in aiding the flood victims.
Hon. Lucky Odili, Dr. Miller O. M, Stanford Oba and Barrister E.D Ekeh, were also present at the event.
