FG Assures Implementation of Education Dev Plan
The Federal Government has assured that it would ensure that the four-year strategic plan for the development of the education sector is fully implemented.
The minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’i gave the assurance in a meeting with Directors and Heads of Parastatals in the Ministry, in Abuja, recently.
Prof. Rufai explained that the plan was the ministry’s way of achieving both sectoral and national objectives of President Jonathan’s Transfomation Agenda.
She urged them to pay attention to identified activities in the plan and those other actions that would lead to their success.
According to her, “in the next few days, as part of the implementation process of the strategic plan, we are going to inaugurate some committees as part of our drive to develop efficient national systems.
“One of the legacies that we must leave is that of providing mechanisms that ensure greater efficiency in the implementation of education policies”.
She said that the Committees would be working on Guidance and Counselling in schools; Monitoring of Learning Achievement, and National Teacher Development Needs.
The Education Minister stressed that the strategic plan would include the development of Teachers Professional Development Framework and Quality Assurance.
She said the committees would work towards developing or updating frame works to enhance practice in each of the areas identified in the strategic plan.
She maintained that the implementation Task teams were already in place to liaise with the Directors and Heads of parastatals to actualise the plan.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state.
