Customs Boss Canvasses Policy Compliance
The Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service, Mr. Abdullahi Dikko, on Wednesday in Abuja, urged importers to comply with the Customs’ policy to avoid seizure of their goods.
Dikko said in an interview with newsmen that the service would ensure compliance with import procedures with its Risk Management System.
He said, “There is no basis for subjecting yourself to normal scrutiny if you have established integrity. Once you make declaration of your goods, they will be cleared.”
Dikko said it was unfortunate that the seized and auctioned goods, which were supposed to be bought by individuals for personal use, were still being displayed for sale in the markets.
According to him, if the seized goods are taken to orphanages or given to Non-Governmental Organisations for distribution, the materials will help the less privileged persons.
Dikko said the service was awaiting the Federal Government’s directives on how to distribute some seized goods to recognised orphanages and NGOs as a humanitarian gesture.
