The Adamawa College of Health Technology, Michika, has expelled five students over examination malpractice in the 2009/2010 academic year.
The Provost, Alhaji Muhammad Jund-Anis, told newsmen in Mubi last Thursday that the students committed various offences during their examinations.
He added that the cases were investigated by the Examination Ethics and Disciplinary Committee set up by the college.
The provost said “the committee scrutinised the cases and recommended that the affected students be expelled.
“Consequently, the college has adopted effective measures to check the menace and enhance academic excellence’’.
Jund-Anis also advocated for stiffer penalties for examination malpractice “to check the menace in educational institutions in the country.’’
On school development project, Jund-Anis said that the college had constructed a new administrative block, procured modern laboratory equipment, rehabilitated classrooms and hostels, as well as provided classroom furniture.
He noted that the school had recruited 65 staff and organised seminars and workshops for teachers under its Teacher Development Programme.
According to him, an NGO, Book Aid International, donated over 1,000 text books to the school, while the Health System Development Project (HSDP) donated computers and two 33-seater buses to the college.
“We are also in partnership with the Adamawa State University (ADSU), in the areas of Teacher Training and Research,” he said.
The college, which has more than 1,000 students, offers seven courses in the fields of laboratory technology, environment and community health services.
