Foundation Donates Writing Materials To School
Pupils of Community Primary School, Rumuoparali near Choba in Obio/Akpor Local Government of Rivers State were elated on Friday following a donation of writing materials courtesy of Sycamore Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.
The pupils numbering over 150 got a 40 leave exercise book each with erasers, pencil and sharpeners.
President of the foundation lady Pat Oguafor, during the presentation ceremony said it’s part of the vision of the body to reach out the less privileged children including the motherless and fatherless ones to the service of God and humanity.
Lady Oguafor lamented that a lot of rural children do not get the best because of the financial difficulties faced by their parents.
She declared, “It’s a pity that a lot of rural children go to farming and fishing, when their mates are in school because they buy books, sandals or even pay all the small levies that are imposed on them.
Aside the donation of writing materials to indigent pupils, Lady Oguafor disclosed that the body intends to evolve a special scholarship schemes for them as well from the primary to the university level,” she added.
She disclosed that plans are also underway to build libraries to enhance their reading capacity. This she believed would transform the society and raise the quality of education in the country.
In his address, the handmaster of the school, Mr Brown Christopher said he was impressed with the gesture shown by the body.
He said, “the materials are a big relief to some of the children because a lot of them find it difficult to buy books.
Since the establishment of the school in 1977, he observed that no organisation has displayed such level of zeal to improve the lots of children. Mr Christopher described Sycamore Foundations gesture as unprecedented, while enjoining other bodies to emulate them. Some of the pupils who spoke to The Tide expressed happiness over the donations.
For Chioma Wosu in Primary Six, the exercise book would be used in writing his mathematics notes.
