Pillars Fined N1.8m, Banished To Calabar
Title chasers, Kano Pillars have been fined N1.8 million and banished to the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar for the remainder of their home games following crowd trouble which followed their 1-1 home draw against Dolphins at the weekend.
Pillars fans attacked match officials as well as the Dolphins team after a result which could yet cost them the League title.
Referee Gabriel Adigwe, his assistants and the match commissioner were set upon as they made their way to the dressing room, and the NPL has come down hard on the club.
“The Premier League is worried over persistent and unjust attack on match officials in recent times,” Tunji Babalola, NPL’s Head of Competitions, said while handing down the punishment.
Pillars will pay N1 million to the NPL, and N200,00 each to the four assaulted match officials for a total of N800,000.
Pillars have also been asked to identify the perpetrators of the attack for prosecution.
