FG Targets 20,000 New Jobs
The Federal Government has put in place strategies to create 20,000 job opportunities through the National Directorate of Employment, NDE. The new enterprises are expected to be created before the end of the year.
Labour and Productivity Minister, Mr Chukwuemeka Wogu disclosed this in Umuahia, the Abia State capital on the occasion of the resettlement of 122 unemployed youths trained under the programme of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE. The resettlement package was disbursed in cash, equipment and tools to the beneficiaries.
Chief Wogu, according to the NDE spokesman, Mr Nnamdi Asomugha said the exercise is under the directorate’s economic stimulus package designed to inject fresh enterprises into the Nigerian economy to stem the effects of the global economic meltdown through job creation.
Wogu who is also the Chairman of the NDE Board, said within the first quarter of this year the Federal Government through the NDE had created a total of 4,970 new enterprises. ‘‘By the end of the year’’ he added, ‘‘an estimated 20,000 fresh enterprises would have been created with the potential to provide 200,000 new job opportunities.”
These efforts, the Minister said are in line with the Federal Government’s desire to productively engage as many young Nigerians as possible.
