Rodents, Mosquitoes Invade UPTH, UNIPORT
An outbreak of lassa and malaria fever may be underway in the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) and University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) if the huge presence of rats and mosquitoes are not checked in the institutions.
Weekend Tide independent investigations reveal that despite attempts by the hospital’s management to fumigate the health facility premises the occurrence of rodents and mosquitoes has not been abated.
Even patients and relations who visit the hospital, it was further gathered, now reside in nearby Alakahia community due to incessant mosquitoe bites.
One of the patients in the hospital who preferred anonymity said, “Some of us have to come with our mosquitoe nets, if not you can’t sleep in the hospital in the night.”
Weekend Tide equally gathered that rats have continued to pose danger to equipment, and even in the mortuary where there have been cases of mutilated bodies resulting from rats bites.
Our reporter was reliably informed that a couple whose baby was mutilated in the mortuary is suing the hospital authority after discovering that the dead body of their baby had been chopped off by the mysterious rodents.
Claiming that the wound on their baby’s body was the handiwork of ritualists or morgue attendants, the couple was reported to have threatened court action against the hospital.
