NAPPS Boss Calls For Schools Identification
President of the National
Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Hon. Victor Green, has called for all private, primary and secondary schools to be registered with the body to enhance regulation.
He made the call recently in a meeting with proprietors and called at the behest of the state commissioner of Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku, in which the commissioner revealed some of the excesses of some private schools in the state.
While noting that NAPPS is the “Only Umbrella body that regulates all private schools in Nigeria”, Hon Green urged the state government to make it compulsory for all private schools to register with NAPPS.
This, he said is one way of ensuring that all private schools in the state abide by the laws, rules and regulations of owning and running a school.
The NAPPS boss, who was responding to the commissioners revelation that many Private Schools in the state do not abide by the extant law, rules and regulations governing the operations of private schools, noted that the meeting was overdue.
Earlier in his address at the occasion, the commissioner had stated the government’s awareness that “many private schools are operating without approval, and some approved schools are not members of the Association.
According to him, although there is a law, as well as regulations and guidelines made by the ministry of Education guiding the establishment and operation of private, primary and secondary schools, “there are more unapproved than approved private schools operating in the state.”
