Retired Headmaster Installed Chief
Ochigba Community in
Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State has honoured one of their own, a retired headmaster, Chief Fred Odum, with a chieftaincy title of Eze Nwe-Ula (Paramount Ruler) of Ochigba the fourth.
Speaking during the occasion which attracted a lot of dignitaries from within the locality, Chief Odum, who expressed gratitude to the people for the honour, promised not to betray the trust.
According to him, the only I can show appreciation, is to run an open door policy, becoming an agent of peace, initiating people oriented projects and supporting government programmes.
In doing so, he assured that he would be open to useful suggestions, constructive criticism and consultations “geared towards development of the community.
He, therefore called on members of the CDCs, council of chiefs, elites, youths and elders to support him to achieve a regime of unity and progress, while promising that all moribund cultural values, would be restated as instrument of unity.
In his welcome speech, chairman of the coronation committee, Arc Charless Enwudor, said the occasion marked a new chapter in the history of the community as a new administration is ushered in with love, unity and sense of purpose.
He said, “for a purposeful, good governance and development, the committee had drawn up a constitution for the town”.
Arc Enwudor, therefore urged the new administration to ensure that they were guided by the document to ensure everlasting peace.
The chairman, however appealed to the authorities of Ahoada East local government council thus, “In the absence of a substantive Eze Igbu Upata Ike stool and Owhor’ of Ukpata Kingdom still reside in Ochigba community’ as we therefore request the new ruler should be accorded recognition.”
Other family chiefs around with him are Chiefs Silas Agi, Felix Ukpo, James Malvin, Innocent Friday, Goodluck Oloko, Ukpeni Ogechi, Lucky Walson, Lazarus Ugboji, Justin and Andrew Ekamadu.
